I’m baack! I took a (long) break from blogging. There are several reasons, but mainly it’s because that I’ve been working as an artist for a company again and didn’t want any issues with regard to their social media policy. Also, I just wanted a break.
It’s Spring and I feel like it’s time for me get back into the swing of things. Time to come out of hibernation. Literally. Well, sorta. I have been doing a bit of spring cleaning, this blog included. I have gone through and kept the posts which are the most important to me – and got rid of the rest. I wanted to start with a (somewhat) clean slate.
The following post was originally published on December 9, 2013. I am keeping it, because it’s probably the most honest thing I’ve written. It’s the reason why I sit at my computer and write, and pretend that people are actually interested in what I have to say. 🙂
Happy Spring! xo
One of the most important people in my life once told me, “Stop resisting who you are. Once you do that, everything else will fall into place.” So, here I am. A lawyer who loves (I mean really LOVES) makeup. I have worked as a lawyer and a makeup artist for years, and I love doing both. People call me crazy, but I like to own it. I love being in the courtroom, as much as I love applying false eyelashes. It’s my thing. It’s who I am.
I have been watching makeup tutorials and reading other makeup blogs for a long time. To find out the latest makeup trends, and to see women from all over the world is just well. . . awesome. I love to read about different ideas, cultures, and to get a glimpse into the lives of everyday women. One of the many things I’ve learned, (besides the perfect smokey eye) is that beauty isn’t just about how you look, but how you feel. Unfortunately, there are so many negative forces in the world and on the internet. As women, we should be empowering each other, not tearing each other down. Makeup can make us appear beautiful to the outside world, but all the makeup in the world can’t mask who you really are in the inside.
We should be inspired by the beauty that we see everyday, all around us and in each other. One of my inspirations is my younger sister. She is beautiful (on the outside obviously, but more importantly on the inside) and has fun just being herself. The quote, “To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are. . .” by Ellen Degeneres (one my sister’s favorite people) reminds me of my sister’s remarkable ability to be happy with who she is (regardless of what anyone else says or thinks) and pretty much says it all.
We all want to be beautiful, and it means something different to everyone. So, whether it’s learning a new eyeshadow look, or about the best drugstore mascara, the idea behind each video/post on this blog will be the same. Do what’s right for you, and what makes YOU feel beautiful, no matter what. We’re all beautiful in our own unique way. Don’t let anyone ever convince you otherwise.
After years of an internal struggle, and not wanting to put myself out there, (in more ways than one), I have decided that it’s time. I’m not sure what’s changed, but I’m ready. It’s time to stop resisting who I am, and let everything else fall into place. . .
